The newest Dr. Fate is Hector Hall, the son of Carter and
Shiera Saunders Hall (Hawkman I
& Hawkgirl I).
Lyta Trevor is the daughter of Helena Kosmatos, the original
Fury. Her identity of her
father has yet to be revealed, though Helena is known to have been romantically
involved with Iron Munro.
Lyta was named after Hippolyta, the Wonder
Woman of the 1940s, of whom Helena was a great admirer. Under as-yet-unrevealed
circumstances, Lyta was given over to the adoptive care of Joan Dale
(Miss America) and her husband, Admiral
Derek Trevor.
 Hector
and Lyta were childhood friends. They fell in love engaged to marry while
attending college at UCLA. As the Silver Scarab and Fury (II),
they were both founding members of the upstart group called Infinity,
Inc. Shortly after the disappearance of the JSA (after the Crisis), Lyta
discovered that she was pregnant. (Infinity, Inc. #32)
But before their wedding and birth of their child, Hector was
murdered by Hath-Set, his parents' eternal enemy. Hath-Set subsequently
resurrected Hector as an inhuman entity and pitted him against his former
comrades. (#44)
Infinity could not save Hector's soul. But unknown to Lyta, his soul
was waylaid by Brute and Glob, renegade servants of Morpheus (Dream of
the Endless). Brute and Glob made Hector the new  Sandman
(III), the successor
to Garrett Sanford. (#49) While in the Dreaming,
Hector contacted Lyta Trevor and renewed their romance. Hector returned
to the waking world long enough to marry Lyta, who then joined him in
the Dreaming. (#51) When Morpheus returned to
reclaim his kingdom he sent Hector on to the afterlife and returned Lyta
to the waking world. (Sandman v.2 #12) Lyta subsequently
gave birth to their child, a boy named Daniel. (#22)
Daniel was claimed by Morpheus and groomed to become the new incarnation
of Dream (II).

Lyta was traumatized by the loss of her son and for a time she wandered.
She traveled to Athens to meet the Furies. (Sandman
Presents: The Furies) After a time in a spiritual limbo, Hector
was "fated" to be reborn in a new body, which imparted a long-denied
soul. (JSA
Secret Files #1) This form
is the biological offspring of two agents of Chaos and Order — Don
Hall and Dawn Granger (Hawk and Dove II).
This infant was magically aged to adulthood and entrusted with the
artifacts of Nabu, becoming the new Dr. Fate (IV).

Since then, Hector's father has also been reincarnated, (#23)
but the true spirit of his mother has gone. As Dr. Fate, Hector often
struggled with Nabu — the ancient source of Fate's power —
for the control of Dr. Fate. Hector became very mistrustful of Nabu,
who often would wrest control of Fate away from Hector. Hector also
continued to search for Lyta, who had since gone missing. What he did
not know is that both Nabu and the evil Mordru had tricked Hector
on this quest. Nabu had in fact removed Lyta from the mortal realm and
cast a "blinding spell" on her so that she could not remember
her former life. This he did in order to fashion Hector into the perfect
pawn.
A woman who appeared to be Lyta surfaced, comatose, in a hospital. It
was soon revealed that this was, however, Dawn Granger, who had herself been the victim of Mordru's spell. (#44)
During a fierce battle in Kahndaq, Nabu made another grab at dominance.
This time, while Hector was trapped inside the artifacts of Fate, he allied
himself with the spirits of his predecessors and discovered that Nabu
had also hidden his wife therein. This happy occasion was sufficient for
Hector and Lyta to regain control of Fate, return to the material world,
and banish Nabu into silence. (#58) They returned
to their new home, the Tower of Fate in Salem, Massachusetts and Hector
resigned from the JSA. (#59, 63)
Shortly after their reunion, Hector and Lyta were cast into Hell by the Spectre, who was on a rampage against all magic. They fought hard to survive, but Fury ultimately called upon their son Daniel to take them off to the land of the Dreaming. (JSA #80)
Hector's other living relatives
are his mother- and father-in-law, Joan Dale Trevor (Miss America)
and Admiral Derek Trevor; his mother's cousin, Cyril "Speed"
Saunders; and his own cousin, Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl
II). Fury's
birth mother, the original Fury, is still alive.
Lyta's mother, the elder Fury has also gone off into the unknown, along with the Amazons of Themyscira. (Wonder Woman #224)
In pre-Crisis continuity, Lyta was actually
the daughter of the Golden Age Wonder
Woman and her husband, Steve Trevor. In the wake of the Crisis,
Lyta "lost" those memories in Infinity, Inc. #27, and her
new origin was told in Infinity #35 and Secret Origins #12.
